FAQ's
Do you ship products?
We only ship gift cards and apparel. We are working on getting this implimented on our new site. In the meantime, if you want a gift card or apparel shipped, let us know in the order notes, and make sure you give us an email contact. We'll then invoice you for shipping charges.
How do I sign up for an in-person class?
Go to our "in-person classes" page, select the class you are interested in, select the date you are interested in, and complete that purchase. Make sure to select "in-store pickup!"
What is “Temporary Hold” in my shopping cart?
Because we sell many products by the pound, your order may be somewhat above
the average weight. The temporary hold allows us to adjust your order to the actual
weight you receive. You are never charged for more than the weight of your order. Any
funds in excess of what’s needed to cover your order are automatically refunded once
we fill your order.
How do I sign up for Butcher Baskets?
Go to our Butcher Basket page, add whichever basket you're interested in to your kart, and go to checkout. Select your pickup day, pay your bill, and voilà! Monthly meat at a substantial discount.
What do I do if I want something that I don’t see listed?
Call us! 510-845-MEAT (6328). We’re always happy to custom cut any product.
Can I use a gift certificate / Credibles to make an online purchase?
No, but we can process that order manually. Give us a call and we can take your order and then charge your gift card or credibles account.
Do you sell whole animals?
Yes we do. We sell beef by the quarter (front or back), pork by the side, and lamb by
the each. We do require advance notice. Give us a call during business hours and we
can guide you through the process. We can also do roaster hogs.
Can you cut and wrap my whole animal purchase?
Absolutely. We will butcher and wrap your whole animal purchase to your specifications for an additional $1.60 per pound.
Are your meats Organic?
Most of our meat is not certified Organic. Some of it comes from certified Organic
land, and is fed certified Organic feed, but not processed in an Organic facility, so can
not be labeled as Organic. We feel that our standards far exceed the Organic standard,
and that it is often not practical for the small farmers and ranchers we partner with to
certify their products as Organic.
Are the non-meat products you use Organic?
Sometimes. Often the produce is. We prioritize working with quality local producers over Organic status, though there is a great deal of crossover, and most of the produce we buy is certified Organic. As with our meat, what isn’t certified Organic far exceeds
the Organic standard.
I can’t find your shop. I’m looking on Shattuck but it’s not there!
While our address is on Shattuck Avenue, our entrance is located on Cedar Street.
I have more questions that aren’t covered in this FAQ!
