How does a Butcher Basket subscription work?

Using our online system you will sign-up, select your Butcher Basket and set-up payment. Butcher Baskets will be available for pick-up over a 2-day period each month. You will select a Sunday/Monday pick up or Monday/Tuesday pick up. A schedule of upcoming pick-up dates is posted on our website and you will receive a reminder email a week in advance of your pick-up date. The sign-up for the current monthly period will close one week in advance of the upcoming pick-up. All Butcher Basket subscriptions are ongoing with automatic monthly billing. Please see below for our policy on postponing or skipping a butcher basket pick-up.

How do I get my Butcher Basket?

At your first pick-up you will receive an insulated basket and a reusable ice pack. We ask that you bring this basket with you each month when you pick-up your share. Butcher Baskets will be available for pick-up at our location during regular business hours on your chosen pick-up window (Sunday/ Monday or Tuesday/ Wednesday). Your monthly share of meat will be frozen and packaged for your freezer.

Is there a cost benefit to the Butcher Basket Program?

Members of the program are purchasing meat at a single price per pound (per animal type) based on the value of whole animals. While the exact percentage will vary depending on the cuts used in any given month, on average each basket represents about a 40% discount off of our regular pricing. Butcher Basket Program members also receive a 10% Pick-up Day discount on other purchased items when they shop in the store on pick-up days.

What if I prefer not to get a particular cut or type of meat?

In order to meet the high demand for butcher baskets and keep the prices from increasing, we pack each basket according to your choice of size and combination of proteins, and without restrictions or preferences for certain cuts. If you are unfamiliar with a particular cut or are not yet comfortable with cooking it, please ask your butcher about suggestions and cooking tips for those cuts. We are excited to be able to provide culinary guidance to our customers and enable everyone to aspire to eat from nose to tail (though you will never receive noses in your basket). The 10% Pick-up Day discount is offered so that you might add a desired cut (such as a nose) to your pick-up if you’d like!

All baskets include beef, however we offer basket options that allow you to omit either pork, lamb, or both pork and lamb, in your basket. Please keep in mind that the type of butcher basket you choose will determine the price of your subscription.

What if I need to skip a Butcher Basket pick-up?

If you are going on vacation, or for any other reason need to skip a month or more, you may place your account on hold by logging in to your account. You must do this at least 7 days in advance of your next scheduled pick-up to avoid being automatically charged. Your account will not be charged while your delivery is on hold.

What if I miss a Butcher Basket pick-up?

If you miss a Butcher Basket pick-up or are unable to pick up your basket on the scheduled days, please contact us by email (info@thelocalbutchershop.com) or phone (510-845-6328).

Please adhere to your scheduled pick-up days that you have selected. Doing so enables us to properly plan for and provide the Butcher Basket service for all of the program’s members. Please note, we will only honor the 10% Pick-up Day discount on the scheduled Butcher Basket days. The only exception is for individuals who have contacted us and received a confirmation for a change of pick-up day. This correspondence must occur before the individual’s normal pick-up day.

If you’ve forgotten to pick up a basket that you’ve paid for and your pick-up window has passed, please email us at info@thelocalbutchershop.com so we can figure out next steps.
