What is the TLBS Butcher Basket Program?

The Butcher Basket Program is an extension of The Local Butcher Shop’s goal to equalize the value of whole animals and encourage you to eat from nose to tail. Through the Butcher Basket, we hope to continue to introduce our customers to the diversity of cuts available at The Local Butcher Shop. Each month you’ll receive a mixed basket of meat containing frozen portions of beef, pork, and lamb*. As always, we’ll tell you the best ways to cook each cut. Members also receive a 10% discount when you shop on Butcher Basket pick-up days.
*Additional share options are available without pork or lamb.

What does a Butcher Basket look like?

Butcher Baskets are composed of a variety of frozen cuts from the front, middle and rear of each animal. Each month you will receive a mix of smaller convenience cuts like steaks, chops and ground meat, as well as larger cuts for roasting or braising that are great for company or planning for multiple meals. There will be some variation by season and we cannot guarantee what the mix will be in any specific month.

Small Butcher Baskets will feed a small household eating about 3 pounds of meat a week. The price for a Small Butcher Basket ranges from $159-$190. A monthly share will include 12 pounds of meat and will typically be made up of:

  • 3-4 lbs. of steaks and/or chops
  • 5-6 lbs. of larger roasting and/or braising cuts
  • 3 lbs. of ground meat

Large Butcher Baskets will feed a large household eating about 5-6 pounds of meat a week. The price for a Large Butcher Basket ranges from $269-325. A monthly share will include 22 pounds of meat and will typically be made up of:

  • 6-7 lbs. of steak and/or chop cuts
  • 10-11 lbs. of larger roasting and/or braising cuts
  • 5 lbs. of ground meat

Whole Animal Butcher Baskets are also available upon request. You can purchase a quarter beef, whole or half pig, or a whole lamb. These packages are cut and frozen in portions that will allow you to feed your household for several months to a year. They require dedicated freezer space and are offered based on the seasonal market price of the whole animal. Ask your butcher for more information about standard sizes and prices for Whole Animal Butcher Baskets.
